I decided to do a few upgrades while we were in the process of swapping out the engine, transmission, and transfer case. I went with a CV joint Oliver’s Custom Driveshaft and an Advanced Adapters SYE kit. Anyone that uses the stock transfer case shifter on a Jeep knows how cumbersome they can be at times. I have had the linkage slip out on the trail which required crawling under the Jeep to retighten the shifter bolt. I decided to upgrade the shift linkage as well while everything was out already. I started looking at the different cable shifter kits available on the market and looked up some reviews. They were all pretty much the same concept and had the same features, so I don’t think you can really go wrong with any of them. I went with the Savvy Off Road Transfer Case Cable Shifter Kit. It is a world of a difference. Shifting the transfer case into any gear is effortless and smooth, with a better feel for which gear you’re in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SYE install was super easy, requiring mainly just a socket and torx-bit set. The only other tool that I would recommend is a good set of retaining ring pliers. This made removing and installing the retaining rings a breeze. In the past I have used regular pliers and screwdrivers to force these retaining rings in… but trust me, that was not the correct way of doing things…and…the proper tool for the job makes it THAT much more easier. Linked below are the two sets of pliers I used. The SPEEDWOX 11 Inches Lock Ring Pliers<\/a> makes it a breeze to remove and install the main horseshoe retaining ring which has flat tips. The 4 piece Astro Pneumatic Tool Large Internal\/External Retaining Ring plier set<\/a> worked great on the rest of the rings along the transfer case shaft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
